Today on the podcast, I am talking about Appendix F, gambling rules, followed up by my own homebrew "Mug Toss" game. Check it out!
Mug Toss Game:
Mug Toss
Objective: Players aim to toss a mug into a designated target area in order to win coins from the pot. Materials:
Several empty mugs or small cups.
A designated target area (a table or a marked spot on the floor).
A pot of gold coins for betting.
Setup:
Each player antes up a small amount of gold into the pot.
Set up a target area about 10-15 feet away.
Gameplay:
Players take turns trying to toss their mug into the target area.
Each player can take three tosses to try and land their mug in the area.
Players score points based on where the mug lands:
Inside the target area: 3 points.
Close to the edge of the target area: 1 point.
Outside the target area: 0 points
For every mug that lands outside the target, the character must:
1. Take a shot of whiskey
2. Add 2 coin to the pot
For every mug that lands close to the target, the character must:
1. take a large swig of ale
After 5 rounds, the player with the highest score wins the pot.
Mechanics:
Throwing - Using d20 + Dex Bonus, Target number 15. 12-14 - close.
On the second shot of whiskey, Dex -2, then -3..etc
Ale or drink of choice every two swigs of -2
Optional Rules:
Characters can bet coins on each toss amongst one another for extra fun.
Mug Toss is a great game, but I would also incorporate Constitution regarding the effects of alcohol, maybe add the CON bonus or penalty to the accumulated drink penalty, i.e. a CON bonus of +2 would be unaffected by the first whiskey, etc.
I love Mug Toss! I’m going to use that idea in my Shadowdark play at some point. (And of course I’ll credit you!)
